The Employer To-do List: April-May

If you don't have payroll software, change your Inland Revenue filing habits (remember, you'll need to start filing within 2 days of payday)

Update your employee records - IR want to see start and leave dates, D.o.B and contact info

Update your contracts and rates

Think about a raise for any senior employees who might lose their hard-earned margin

Add a new clause to your contracts

Put policies and processes in place to deal with this leave type

Make sure you have support information on hand

Update the info you provide to new employees, removing the upper age limit and offering new contribution rates (remember, these haven't been officially introduced yet)

Less than 20 employees? No action required

20 or more employees? From May 6th, you won't be able to enter into an employment agreement with a trial period clause. Update your employment agreement to include a probationary period clause instead

By May 6th, make sure your employment agreements include a 10-minute paid rest break for every four hours work and an 30-minute unpaid meal break for over four hours

Adjust your rostering and schedules to allow for these breaks
