The long-term success of the New Zealand economy is dependent on a number of key segments performing to their full potential; central among these is the agricultural sector. As a Farm Enterprise Specialist, Julia Jones focuses on adding value to businesses, combing practical knowledge of farming, with a real passion for helping people succeed.
Part of her role is to help farmers take their businesses from good to great. Julia's 'why' is all about making sure people can remain economically sustainable, and a big part of this is running a good business. However, to run a good business, she believes you have to look after your people because they are one of your biggest assets.
The business perspective in farming needs attention, as some will agree. The industry has come a long way in the last couple of years, but it still has further to go to make sure New Zealanders are running their businesses as efficiently as possible. Efficiency enables them to maintain long term economic sustainability and be agile with the changing face of farming.
It's the perfect tool that gives business the gift of time, efficiency and effectiveness around their people management and payroll.Julia Jones, Farm Enterprise Specialist
Julia says, "Traditionally payroll has been mysterious. It's also not a new issue. The labour department carried out investigations around four years ago, and this continued to be a big pain point that was not completed effectively. People have muddled through and have done the best that they can, however not enough focus and attention has been dedicated. Potentially because it's quite hard to do and its time intensive. Farmers are busy people. They are HR managers, vets and engineers, so if you can make something easier for them to do, then it gives them the capability to do it properly and do it well."
"The great thing I think PaySauce has done is it's found a gap in the market, a pain point, and it has been able to fix it. They have identified that it's not even about a payroll system, but about the bigger picture and what we need to do as an industry holistically to get to the next level and remain economically, environmentally and socially sustainable."
"It's the perfect tool that gives business the gift of time, efficiency and effectiveness around their people management and payroll. Every business should be on a payroll system. It’s taking something that takes hours and turning it into five minutes. Getting it right is so important to keep your staff motivated. It's those little things that really annoy people – like when you pay the holiday pay wrong, and when you work a public holiday and they don't calculate that correctly – those are real pain points for staff."

"I have found with PaySauce that its after service care is just as good. It doesn't matter how good the technology is, it is always a bit daunting when you haven’t used something like this before. From our experience, it's easy, and when customers set it up, there is someone to talk you through it and the support is ongoing. Hearing a friendly voice at the end of the phone is a huge selling point for people, even me."
"Within my role I attend many events, and in my opinion PaySauce are dedicated and committed to agritech. Many people have come into this industry and want to take over the world tomorrow, but they realise it's a slow burn industry that doesn’t work fast enough for them."
"I think it's a huge endorsement and commitment from Federated Farmers, who are normally very picky with who they choose to pair with, to create an alliance with PaySauce."
